TY-SHIELD™ single-component polyurethane waterproof coating — a moisture-curing, liquid-applied waterproofing membrane. No on-site mixing, no pot-life countdown, no catalyst. Open the drum and apply; the coating absorbs atmospheric moisture and cures into a seamless, highly elastic rubber membrane. Available in Type I (≥550% elongation, for movement joints) and Type II (≥2.45 MPa tensile, for hydrostatic pressure). Applies to damp substrates and bonds to concrete, masonry, metal, wood, and glass. Standard formulation is aromatic; aliphatic (UV-resistant) variants available for exposed roofs on request. Product Overview

Why PU Handles Complex Geometry Better Than Sheet Goods

A basement slab with three pipe penetrations converging at one corner, a drainage channel running diagonally, and an elevator pit with compound-angle inside corners. A 1-meter-wide SBS modified bitumen membrane installer cuts seven or eight separate pieces to fit this single detail — each lap seam is a potential leak path.

PU does not cut and fit. It is a liquid. Pour it in, spread it, and it self-levels into the lowest point, filling annular spaces around pipes and rounding inside corners naturally. The cured film is one continuous, seamless elastomeric membrane — chemically formed on the substrate, not mechanically assembled from factory-cut pieces. Installation time at complex nodes is typically one-third or less of the equivalent sheet membrane detailing.

Applications

Basements, Tunnels, Underground Structures

PU's ≥550% elongation absorbs concrete shrinkage without cracking. 0.3 MPa watertightness handles significant hydrostatic head. Apply to damp formwork-stripped concrete — no waiting for full curing.

Roofs, Gutters, Parapets

Roller or spray for large areas, hand scraper for details. PU stays in place on sloped and vertical surfaces. For exposed roofs, specify the aliphatic formulation — passes GB/T 19250 artificial weathering.

Bathrooms, Kitchens, Wet Areas

2–3 coats at 0.8–1.0 kg/m² each. Broadcast sand into the final wet coat — tile adhesive bonds directly, no separate primer needed.

Movement Joints, Pipe Penetrations

The most frequent leak points in any system. PU fills the annular space in one pass — no cutting, no laps. Cures into a monolithic seal around every penetration.

Ether-Based Backbone — Built for Permanent Immersion

Polyether-based PU resists hydrolytic degradation far better than polyester-based alternatives — the ether linkage (C–O–C) is inherently stable in water. This is why TY-SHIELD™ is specified for swimming pools, water tanks, and permanently submerged applications. Type II retains 80–150% of tensile strength after alkali treatment per GB/T 19250.

Thickness Is Decided On Site — Not at the Factory

Sheet membranes arrive at fixed gauge; you can't adjust. PU thickness is controlled by the applicator: 1 mm dry film ≈1.6–1.8 kg/m². 1.5 mm for roofs, 2 mm for pools, 2.5 mm for high-water-table basements — same drum, just more passes.

-40°C Flexibility — Elasticity That Survives the Freeze

GB/T 19250 requires all types to pass -40°C bend with no cracking. Most elastomeric coatings turn brittle below freezing; PU's polymer network stays flexible. For northern China, Russia, and Scandinavia, this determines whether waterproofing survives its first winter.

100% Cohesive Failure — The Bond Is Stronger Than the Concrete

Pull-off testing fractures the concrete, not the bond line. Under hydrostatic pressure, water cannot peel the coating off — it would need to tear the concrete apart. PU achieves this through covalent bonding between isocyanate groups and substrate hydroxyl groups at the molecular level.

Installation Guide

Substrate Preparation — Flat, Sound, No Standing Water

Remove loose material, dust, and oil. Grind down high spots. Fill cracks wider than 2 mm with repair mortar. The substrate can be damp — dark in color, cool to the touch — but there must be no standing water. For basements, pump out any pooled water and allow 24 hours of ventilation before application. No primer is required on sound concrete.

Detail Treatment — Corners and Penetrations First, Not After

Apply 2–4 extra coats at all inside and outside corners, pipe penetrations, and floor drains before the main area. Build thickness to ≥1 mm at these points. If reinforcement fabric is specified, embed polyester non-woven fabric into the wet coating at this stage — press firmly with a scraper to fully saturate the fabric and eliminate air pockets.

Main Area Application — Cross-Coating in Two Directions

Apply the first coat in one direction using a rubber squeegee or short-nap roller. Wait until tack-free — approximately 4–6 hours at 25°C, longer below 15°C. Apply the second coat perpendicular to the first. The cross-direction pattern seals pinholes that may have formed in the first coat. Each coat consumes approximately 0.8–1.0 kg/m². Total film thickness depends on the application: 1.2 mm for bathrooms, 1.5 mm for roofs, 2 mm minimum for pools and basements.

Reinforcement — Between Coat One and Coat Two

For crack-repair zones, cold joints, and new-to-old concrete interfaces, lay glass-fiber mesh or polyester non-woven fabric into the first coat while it is still wet. Press from the center outward with a scraper to expel all trapped air. The fabric must be fully saturated — no dry fibers visible on the surface. Overlap adjacent fabric sections by at least 100 mm.

Why the Drum Seal Matters

The prepolymer cures on contact with air. Every drum is moisture-sealed with a rubber-gasketed lid. 10 kg, 20 kg, 25 kg. Palletized for container shipment.

DG Class 3 — UN 1263 / UN 1866

Flammable liquid, Packing Group III. Drums must remain upright. MSDS required for DG container booking. TDS, MSDS, packing list, and certificate of origin provided with every shipment.

12-Month Shelf Life

Store at 5–40°C, dry and ventilated. Reseal opened drums within 30 minutes — air in the headspace reacts with the product. Expired drums: remove surface skin, stir, test-patch. If it cures tack-free in 24h, it's still usable.

OEM — Brand It, Then Tune It

Custom label, drum color, and size. Formulation-level tuning: lower viscosity for spray, thixotropic additive for vertical surfaces, faster tack-free for humid climates, aliphatic base for UV-exposed product positioning. Sample batch for approval before production.

How is single-component PU applied, and how does it cure?
The coating is supplied as a ready-to-use liquid in a sealed drum. Apply with a rubber squeegee or short-nap roller at 0.8–1.0 kg/m² per coat. Curing occurs through a chemical reaction between isocyanate groups in the prepolymer and atmospheric moisture — no catalyst, no heating, and no on-site mixing are involved. Tack-free time is ≤12 hours at 23°C. Full hardness develops within 24 hours. Below 5°C, the moisture-cure reaction slows significantly — postpone application or use forced-air heating set below 60°C.
Type I vs Type II — which should I specify?
Type I (≥550% elongation, ≥1.9 MPa tensile): for substrates that move — roofs under thermal cycling, expansion joints, seismic-zone buildings, and concrete slabs expected to develop shrinkage cracks. The high elongation absorbs substrate movement without tearing. Type II (≥2.45 MPa tensile, ≥450% elongation): for structures under sustained hydrostatic pressure — basements, tunnels, swimming pools, water tanks, and below-grade walls. The higher tensile strength resists the force of groundwater trying to push through the membrane. Both types pass -40°C low-temperature bend and 0.3 MPa watertightness testing.
Can PU be applied on a damp concrete surface?
Yes — damp is acceptable. Standing water is not. A concrete surface that is dark from moisture but has no visible water film can be coated directly. PU's moisture-cure mechanism actively consumes ambient humidity, so the residual moisture in green concrete does not inhibit curing — it participates in it. For freshly stripped basement walls, pump out any pooled water, ventilate for 24 hours, and proceed. The GB/T 19250 damp-base adhesion requirement of ≥0.50 MPa confirms performance on substrates that have not fully dried.
How long does it take to dry under different temperatures?
At 25°C: tack-free in 4–6 hours, fully cured in 24 hours. At 15°C: tack-free in 8–12 hours, fully cured in 36 hours. Below 10°C: tack-free may exceed 12 hours, full cure may take 48 hours or longer. The practical test: press a dry finger onto the coating — if it leaves no fingerprint and feels dry to the touch, the next coat can be applied. For accelerated curing in cold conditions, use industrial fan heaters with the air temperature kept below 60°C to avoid surface skinning that traps uncured material underneath.
How many coats and what is the coverage rate?
Minimum two coats applied in perpendicular directions — the cross-coating pattern seals pinholes that may form in a single-direction application. Each coat consumes 0.8–1.0 kg/m². Total film thickness targets: 1.2 mm for interior wet areas (bathrooms, kitchens), 1.5 mm for protected roofs, 2 mm minimum for swimming pools and underground structures. Achieving a 1 mm dry film thickness requires approximately 1.6–1.8 kg/m² of wet material. Internal and external corners and pipe penetrations receive 2–4 extra coats before the main area application — building to ≥1 mm before the first full coat.
Can it be used on exposed roofs? Will sunlight degrade it?
Yes — with the correct formulation. The standard product is aromatic PU, designed for buried, internal, and protected applications. For exposed roofs, gutters, and balconies subject to direct UV radiation, specify the aliphatic PU variant. Aliphatic PU passes GB/T 19250 artificial weathering testing (no cracking or deformation after accelerated UV exposure) and is referenced by ASTM D7311 for single-pack moisture-triggered aliphatic roofing membranes. Specify 'exposed roof application' at order stage so the correct formula is dispatched. For exposed roofs, do not reduce the coating thickness — UV penetrates from the surface downward; at least 2 mm dry film thickness is recommended.
