Installation Guide

Surface Preparation

Substrate must be clean, dry, firm, and free of dust, oil, grease, and loose particles. Apply cold bitumen primer on porous surfaces like concrete and masonry for optimal adhesion.

Weather Constraints

Do not apply during rain, snow, or strong wind. Installation below 5°C may reduce initial tack — gentle indirect warming of the adhesive side improves cold-weather bond performance.

Positioning & Alignment

Unroll the membrane and allow it to relax. Start from the lowest point on horizontal surfaces, working upward so that overlaps naturally shed water.

Peel & Apply

Peel back the release film progressively while unrolling the membrane onto the primed substrate. For double-side variants, peel liners from both faces.

What is the difference between Class N and Class PY self-adhesive membranes?

Aluminum foil provides superior UV reflection, vapor barrier properties, and aesthetic finish for exposed applications. What is the difference between single-side and double-side self-adhesive membrane?
Single-side self-adhesive has adhesive coating on the bottom face only, with a surface film (PE/PET/ALU/Sand) on top — it is the standard for most roofing and basement applications where the membrane is the outermost waterproofing layer. Double-side self-adhesive has release liners on both faces, allowing it to bond two substrates together — commonly used as a sandwich layer between concrete slabs, for lap-joint reinforcement, or where additional bonding strength is required.
Is a primer required before installing self-adhesive membrane?
While the membrane can bond directly to clean, smooth metal and some non-porous surfaces, we strongly recommend applying a cold bitumen primer on concrete, masonry, and blockwork. Primer seals the substrate surface, eliminates dust, and significantly enhances long-term peel adhesion — especially critical in below-grade applications where hydrostatic pressure is a concern.
Can self-adhesive membrane be installed in cold weather?
Installation is not recommended below 5°C as the adhesive compound becomes less tacky. However, gentle indirect warming of the adhesive face (using a hot air gun on low setting, not an open flame) before application can restore bond performance. How does self-adhesive membrane compare to torch-applied SBS membrane?
Self-adhesive membrane is the safer, faster alternative — no open flame, no hot-work permit, no specialized torching equipment. Torch-applied SBS membranes offer higher heat resistance and are preferred for exposed roofing in hot climates. Self-adhesive membranes excel in confined spaces, refurbishment projects, chemical plants, and anywhere fire safety is paramount. Many projects use both: torch-on SBS for exposed roofs and self-adhesive for basement and foundation systems.
What is the minimum overlap for self-adhesive membrane seams?
Side laps require a minimum 100mm overlap; end laps require a minimum 150mm overlap. All seams must be firmly rolled with a hand roller to ensure a continuous, monolithic waterproof seal. Stagger end laps between adjacent rows by at least 300mm to avoid creating a weak point.
What is the shelf life and how should rolls be stored?
Shelf life is 12 to 18 months from the production date when stored properly: vertically in original packaging, in a cool, dry, covered area away from direct sunlight, at temperatures between +5°C and +35°C. Do not stack rolls horizontally during long-term storage as this can cause deformation. Remove packaging only at the moment of application.
