Aluminum-Faced Bitumen Flashing for Defined Roof Details
This self-adhesive bitumen flashing tape is supplied as a faced strip, rather than a full-width waterproofing membrane or an unfaced joint filler. Its modified-bitumen adhesive is protected by a removable liner until installation; the aluminum surface remains visible in the selected roof or gutter detail.
For procurement, compare the complete construction of each roll: facing, adhesive thickness, width, length and substrate. The technical indices above can be specified for a project, while the offered grade and its test record should match the final order. The −20°C bend check and heat test describe laboratory performance, not a blanket site-application temperature or service-life promise.
When the work involves a large roof area, specify the primary waterproofing membrane and use flashing tape where the system detail calls for it. For coated metal, old bitumen and porous mineral substrates, approve a representative sample before placing the bulk order.

Patch localized seams or penetrations on sound metal gutters and downpipes after cleaning, drying and checking the required overlap.
Metal-to-Masonry Transitions
Bridge specified junctions between sheet metal and prepared masonry or concrete, using compatible primer on porous surfaces where the project trial calls for it.

Installation guide

Measure the sound bonding area around the joint or defect. Choose width, thickness and facing for the detail; do not use a narrow strip as a substitute for a full roof membrane.
Prepare and Trial the Substrate
Remove rust, dust, oil, loose coatings and standing water. Dry the base. Trial adhesion on painted metal, aged bitumen, masonry or plastic, and use a compatible primer if required.
Cut, Position and Roll
Cut without damaging the foil, peel the liner progressively, and press from the center toward the edges. Use a seam roller to remove trapped air and make continuous contact.
Finish Edges and Inspect
Check overlaps, edges, corners and terminations against the project drawing. Protect the patch from traffic or mechanical damage and inspect representative adhesion.

Specify thickness, width, length, foil finish, color, rolls per carton and destination port. Agree palletization and private-label artwork against an approved sample.

How is this different from butyl sealing tape?
This page covers an aluminum-faced modified-bitumen flashing strip. Butyl tape has a different adhesive base. Choose by roof system, substrate, facing and required test record rather than treating the tapes as direct substitutes.
Can the tape remain exposed on a roof?
An aluminum face can protect the adhesive at selected exposed details. Confirm the offered facing, service conditions, edge treatment and project approval before specifying permanent exposure.
Will it bond to old asphalt felt or coated steel?
It can be considered on sound, prepared bituminous or metal surfaces. Remove loose material and run a substrate-specific adhesion trial; primer and compatibility requirements vary.
Does the −20°C bend index mean installation at −20°C?
No. It is a laboratory flexibility condition. Application temperature is a separate requirement and must be checked for the supplied grade and site substrate.
