Selected grades may be incorporated as a reinforcing ply in compatible low-slope built-up roofing systems using the asphalt type and layer configuration specified by the system designer.
The felt may be embedded in compatible hot asphalt as part of a designed multi-layer roofing or waterproofing assembly. It is not a standalone exposed waterproofing membrane.
The organic fiber carrier is passed through molten asphalt and hot-roller extruded so the sheet is impregnated through its full thickness rather than merely coated — the construction described in the Tianyuan product catalog for asphalt roofing felt.
Catalog data groups the felt into Type I (15#) and Type II (30#) performance grades aligned to ASTM D226 requirement levels, with minimum saturated-felt mass of 560 g/m2 and 1270 g/m2 respectively.
Catalog performance data shows max 4.00% loss on heating at 105 degC for 5 h, supporting use in warm export climates when stored and transported per the catalog guidance (below 45 degC, protected from direct sun and rain).
The felt can be mechanically fastened as steep-slope underlayment or embedded in compatible hot asphalt as a built-up roofing ply — no torch, primer or curing time required on site.
Technical properties depend on the selected grade, construction and target standard. Tianyuan catalog data confirms nominal 1 m width, 0.5 mm / 0.8 mm thickness and grey / black configurations, with Type I / Type II performance grades aligned to the ASTM D226 15# / 30# (15 lb / 30 lb) requirement levels shown in the table (D4869-equivalent levels are also available). Grade-specific physical properties should be confirmed against the latest Tianyuan TDS or applicable test report before procurement.

ASTM D226/D226M and ASTM D4869/D4869M are referenced as relevant industry specification frameworks. Mention of these standards does not by itself constitute certification or compliance for every Tianyuan configuration. Confirm the required standard, type, edition, roll configuration and test results before specification or purchase.
Confirm the approved roof system before installation. The roof deck or waterproofing substrate must be structurally sound, smooth, clean and dry. Remove dust, loose material, sharp projections and other contaminants that could create wrinkles, punctures or poor contact.
Install horizontal courses from the lower roof edge upward so successive sheets shed water. Keep the felt smooth and mechanically fasten it in accordance with the roof-covering manufacturer's instructions, project specification and local code.
Where the approved built-up roofing or waterproofing system specifies hot asphalt, prepare the substrate as required, apply the compatible asphalt compound and embed the felt while maintaining continuous contact without trapped air. Confirm asphalt type, laps and temperature limits before work.
Asphalt-saturated felt is an underlayment or system ply, not a permanent exposed roof covering. Minimize unnecessary exposure and complete the specified roofing or waterproofing assembly as soon as practical.
Rolls can be supplied with protective plastic film. Final roll dimensions, wrapping and labeling should be confirmed for the selected grade before shipment.
Store rolls in a dry, ventilated location protected from direct sunlight, rain and other weather exposure. Follow the current product storage instructions for the selected grade.
Keep different product types and sizes separated and protect rolls from crushing, leaning and side pressure. Confirm the approved stacking method before storage.
Protect rolls from rain, direct sun and mechanical damage during loading and transportation. Use additional protective covering where required.
