Asphalt saturated organic felt, often referred to as roofing felt or tar paper, is a time-tested material used as an underlayment in pitched roofing systems. By saturating a high-quality organic fiber mat with premium petroleum asphalt, we create a durable moisture barrier that is both flexible and vapor-permeable.
Primarily used under asphalt shingles, this felt protects the roof deck during construction and provides a critical secondary layer of defense against weather throughout the roof’s life. As a specialized manufacturer, Tianyuan supplies export-quality asphalt felt conforming to international ASTM standards, supporting B2B clients with customized roll specifications and private label services.
The critical secondary defense layer installed over the roof deck before applying final roofing materials.
Thick organic fiber base is fully saturated with asphalt for superior water and moisture resistance.
Allows internal moisture vapor to escape while blocking liquid water ingress from the outside.
Protects the roof deck from rain and weather during construction and throughout the roof's life.
Mandatory secondary barrier for shingle roofing systems to protect against wind-driven rain.
Used in industrial plants and civil buildings as a cost-effective waterproofing underlay.
Provides immediate, short-term weather protection for the roof deck before final tiles are installed.
Suitable for underground damp-proofing, tunnels, and pools as a supplementary moisture barrier.
Significantly reduces the risk of water damage caused by ice damming and severe weather events.
Lightweight and flexible rolls are easy to handle, cut, and mechanically fasten to wooden decks.
A time-tested material used globally for decades in diverse climatic conditions.
The most economical choice for ensuring long-term roof deck integrity in pitched roof systems.

Ensure the roof deck is clean, dry, and secure. Remove all loose debris and sharp objects.
If applying over concrete, use a cold primer and wait for it to dry before paving the felt.
Install horizontally starting from the low point of the pitched roof (eaves) moving upwards.
Maintain a minimum 150mm overlap at roll ends and 100mm at side overlaps.
Secure the felt using galvanized roofing nails or heavy-duty staples to the wooden deck.
Install the primary roof covering (shingles/tiles) as soon as possible after underlayment application.
Each roll is wrapped in protective plastic film to prevent moisture absorption during transit.
Store rolls in an upright position in a dry, ventilated area below 45°C.
Supports custom roll weights (15lb-60lb), lengths, and private label branding for distributors.
Approx. 800 - 1,200 rolls per 20FT container

It acts as a secondary barrier that protects the wooden deck from wind-driven rain if shingles are damaged or blown off.
No, this organic saturated felt is specifically designed for pitched roofs as an underlayment, not as a primary waterproof layer for flat roofs.
30# felt is thicker, heavier, and provides superior tear resistance and durability compared to the lighter 15# felt.
It provides temporary protection, but it should be covered by shingles or tiles within a few days to avoid UV degradation.
